Fluid (KiboPay) Gateway. Pass the surcharge — let the processor own the rules.
A client wanted to pass the 3.3% credit card surcharge to their patients through FluidPay/KiboPay, so we built it. The payment processor handles all the compliance logic — state laws, card network rules — and we simply send the encrypted token. The hard part stays with the people whose job it is.
Encrypted token → FluidPay applies 3.3% & checks compliance → approved
—— Why We Built It
Surcharging is a compliance minefield. So we don’t walk it.
A practice wanted to pass the 3.3% credit card surcharge on to their patients and preferred to do it through FluidPay/KiboPay. Surcharging is deceptively tricky — state laws differ, and card networks impose their own rules — and getting it wrong isn’t a small thing.
So we built the integration around a clean division of labor. The payment processor handles all the compliance logic — the state laws, the card network rules, the math — and we simply send the encrypted token. FluidPay owns the part that’s their expertise; we own a secure hand-off; Cerbo keeps the billing record.
—— What It Does
Surcharge applied. Compliance handled. Token secured.
Pass the 3.3% surcharge
The credit card surcharge can be passed to patients at checkout — recovering processing costs the practice used to absorb.
Processor owns compliance
State surcharge laws and card network rules are the processor’s domain — FluidPay applies them, so the practice doesn’t have to track them.
We send the encrypted token
Our role is a secure, tokenized hand-off — the sensitive card data is encrypted, not something we hold or pass in the clear.
Rules vary by state
Because surcharge legality differs across states, you want that logic in the processor’s hands — kept current by the people who must.
Part of the gateway family
FluidPay/KiboPay sits alongside PayRoc, Authorize.Net, Square, and NMI — another processor we connect on your terms.
Billing stays in Cerbo
The charge and the surcharged total tie back to the patient in Cerbo — the billing record stays where your team works.
The Right Job For The Right System
Let the processor handle the rules. We’ll handle the hand-off.
Surcharge compliance changes by state and by card network, and it should live with the processor built to track it — not bolted onto something else. FluidPay/KiboPay owns that logic; we send a secure, encrypted token; Cerbo holds the record. Each system does the part it does best.
Pass the surcharge. Skip the headache.
Cerbo is the best EHR in functional medicine. Always has been. Always will be.
